Respect
On September 25th, 2011 the WPBA
held our annual fall picnic at Waterville
Park in Waterbury. Thanks to our
members, both active and retired, it
was a great success. The highlight of
the day was the much anticipated race
to determine, once again, who is
                Waterbury PD's Fastest Cop.

                Last year's winner, Officer Stadalnik,
returned along with a few anxious
competitors. An hour before the race
                began the bathrooms became phone
booths for our supermen to change into
shorts and sweats. Let the stretching
                begin!
There were 7 competitors on this hot and humid day... Capt. Appicella and Officers Stadalnik, Ocasio, Strachan, Lennon, Rivera Jr. and McAtee. At the start of the race these 7 were in a pretty tight group running neck and neck but half way through, stamina and endurance kicked in and the seperation from fast to fastest began.

At the finish line the results were in! It was a close finish between Officer Stadalnik and Officer Rivera Jr. and some had to resort to video footage for absolute certainty. Its official! Officer Rivera Jr. is the new champion and now holds the title of Waterbury PD's Fastest Cop! Congrats Officer Rivera! Officer Stadalnik now holds the 2nd place position followed closely by Officer Lennon in 3rd place. We cant wait to see what happens next year... See ya then!

First Annual Wiffle Ball Tournament

The Officers and Executive Board members of the W.P.B.A would like to take this time to express our deep appreciation to the membership on the success of the first annual W.P.B.A Wiffle Ball tournament.  First and foremost we would like to thank all of the participants for coming out.  The competition, sportsmanship, and “smack talking” were all done in the best interest of the games.  We would like to congratulate Stan Stasaitis & Joe Costanzo’s team, “Chin Music”, for winning the tournament.  Even though no one will even remember that they played on the team.  They will go down in Wiffle history as the two cops who played with the two “50 year old ringers.”  The Homerun Derby was also won by Stan “Robinson Cano” Stasaitis whose daddy pitched for him as he took the competition with 12 long balls.

We would also like to thank everyone who helped organize the event, volunteer, prepare, and clean up the fields, there are too many to name individually.  Without everyone’s help, events like this would not be possible. It was great to see the support of our command staff, as well as our fellow brothers and sisters who weren’t playing, but were in attendance.  These events are for all members and their families.  The W.P.B.A. board and officers are always looking for new ideas for future events.

Notable mention to:

2nd place team – “The 5 Things” – Which included Scott Stevenson & Steve Pedbereznak

3rd place team – “Thunder Buddies” – Which included Kevin Marano & Brandon Lanza
